WHAT IS A SPOOKY SHEP?

AND WHAT'S WITH ALL THE COWBOY HATS?

HEY THERE,

Hi there! I'm Emmi, the designer and illustrator behind Spooky Shep Studios. Branding & illustration is my lifeblood, and I'm so excited to share my passions with you.

Spooky Shep Studios was developed in May of 2020, during the peak of COVID-19 with an Etsy shop and a dream. With over six years of experience in graphic design and marketing, I'm ready to take your brand identity to the next level. Each design decision is made with your business and target audience in mind.

WHAT'S A

SPOOKY SHEP?

During the quarantine period of COVID-19, I fell into the Animal Crossing: New Horizons hype around March 2020. There was literally nothing to do all day locked inside except twiddle your thumbs or pick up a video game, so I did the latter. I noticed on twitter there was a pretty significant sized community where people would trade materials and share game codes and everything, so instead of my personal twitter account friends thinking I was a weirdo, I made a new account to join the wave. Thus, twitter user @SpookyShep was born. I had decided on Spooky Shep for the alliteration, an homage to my favorite holiday of Halloween, and my love of the Animal Crossing villager Shep.

WHAT'S WITH THE

COWBOY HATS?

Growing up as a kid in the Midwestern United States, I'm sure you can imagine the first decade of my life. Raised on a farm, I found a hobby in showing horses in 4-H. Stemming from this "horse-girl" aesthetic is how I would eventually turn to art. Horses were my first drawing subjects, and I quickly became "the girl who could draw horses" in school. I like to include little cowboy hats in my illustration projects to add a little personal flair, and because I just think they look super cute. Don't believe me? Check out my Instagram below.

ARE YOU EVEN

QUALIFIED?

At a very young age, I began developing my fine art background - taking every creative class I could possibly squeeze in. In high school, I attended a career center and studied Commercial Art and Design, where I first learned Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. From there, I packed up my things and moved across the state to Dayton, Ohio to attend the The School of Advertising Art to continue growing and refining my skill-set in an array of areas. During my time there, I improved my skills with Adobe Creative Suite, Acrobat, Lightroom, basic HTML + CSS, and more.

I'm currently pursuing my Bachelor's degree in Design Leadership and am expected to graduate in 2023! Woohoo!
